Learn about Intellectual Property at the
UK IPO website
The inventor applies to BIL through completion of the online "
Submit my Idea" form
The inventor is invited to attend a Technical Appraisal Clinic
The product will be assessed by the Technical Appraiser and, if it meets the criteria, a patent search will be arranged
The Inventor may be invited to an informal meeting with the BIL Assessment Panel to review the search result and to discuss the idea.
A professional patentability opinion may then be commissioned
If the opinion is positive, financial support towards UK patent preparation costs
may be available.
The BIL Manager will request a progress report after six months.
